The Pre-School is essentially run by a combination of staff, the volunteers on the committee and the parents/carers. Without all three the pre-school does not function.

The Role of the Staff

The staff carry out the day-to-day running of the Pre-School and ensure that all the children are safe, happy and gaining the most from their time with us. The emphasis with the younger children is on their social skills, encouraging them to play together, to learn how to share, etc. We follow the Early Years National Curriculum, and the staff help to prepare the older children for school.

The Role of the Committee

The committee is made up of parents/carers and is elected every year at our October AGM. If there is no committee there is no Pre-School. The Committee is essentially a Management Team for the Pre-School and as such is responsible for:
• the smooth running of the group
• initiating fundraising
• looking after the groups accounts
• ensuring OFSTED requirements and obligations are met
• taking legal responsibility for the group and it’s actions
• supporting the staff, in particular the Supervisor
• Much more!

The Role of the Parents/Carers

We recognize that you are the key to your child’s emotional, physical and intellectual development. We want to work with you to lay the foundations from which your child will grow into a happy, contented and well-adjusted individual. The Pre-School cannot operate without your support and encouragement. Please try to support our fundraising events and come and see your child’s progress at the various open events we have throughout the year (e.g. Nativity Play, Easter Bonnet Parade, Sports Day). You are welcome and encouraged to participate in our curriculum and all Pre-School events. We would like you to participate towards your child’s progress file by adding your own comments. Your child’s key-worker will occasionally invite your direct input. Please speak to the supervisor if you would like to stay for a particular session.

There are other specific ways that you can become more involved in the Pre-School:

Joining the Committee

All parents/carers are invited to the AGM at which the past year is reviewed and the new committee is elected. Please consider volunteering for a role on the committee during the time your child is at Pre-School. Not only is it essential for the running of the Pre-School but it is a great way for you to become directly involved in your child’s early education.

Sharing Skills and Talents

If you have a hidden talent which you wish to share with the children (e.g. lace making, carpentry, country dancing etc) we will be more than happy to incorporate this into the planning where appropriate.

Helping as much as possible in fundraising activities

The Pre-School is a charity, and as such relies on funds raised by parents in a number of ways. Details of forthcoming fundraising events will always be in the newsletters, or on the notice board in the cloak room. Please offer help and support whenever possible. If you have any questions feel free to talk to any of the committee members. Remember, no funds, no Pre-School.

Comments and Suggestions

Any thoughts, ideas or suggestions are always welcome – please feel free to speak to a member of staff or the committee. We issue a questionnaire to all parents annually and the information gained from this is very useful.
